SPRING AWAKENING - Wednesday 1th to Saturday 20th April 2019

Age Recommendation: 16+ unless accompanied by an adult

 Music by Duncan Sheik

Book and Lyrics by Steven Sater

Perhaps the defining musical of the last decade, Spring Awakening combines an electrifying rock score and genre-defying writing to tell the story of sexual and adolescent discovery. Silenced and dismissed in the firmly censored world of 19th century Germany, a group of teenagers are forced to discover the truth behind their feelings unaided. They find that through each other they unlock a bold and brave new world – with both beautiful and tragic consequences.

An international sensation and winner of 8 Tony and 4 Olivier Awards, Spring Awakening is set in Germany in 1891. A group of teenagers struggle to cope with the sexual mysteries of puberty. Moritz has been having dreams that he can’t explain - dreams that make him feel insane. When Melchior attempts to explain their sexual nature to him, they only get worse. Wendla attempts in vain to learn more about her body and her transformation to womanhood, but is instead forced to learn from experience. Melchior, the most handsome and intelligent boy in school, struggles to handle his changing emotions and give his friends the aid they need. Faced with sexual repression and an often-unjust class of adults, these teenagers attempt to walk the difficult road to emotional and physical maturity the best they can.
